Utah & Wyoming July 2025

Every summer, my friend, Damien, and I take some sort of out of state fishing trip. Over the years we have fished together in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, California, Wyoming, and Montana. This year we decided to do a two-parter and fish some of the southern Utah stuff and then kicking it in the Tetons. We drove past a number of different wildfires and man, the Grand Canyon fire is massive now. We also had to keep our eyes on the Monroe Canyon Fire as it seemed to double in size each day.

The fishing was pretty good throughout the trip. I fish Arizona, Utah, and Colorado so frequently and I have a few reliable patterns that work well in those regions. This trip was a tough reminder that just because a fly works on the fish in Arizona, it doesn’t mean that the fish in Wyoming are going to eat it too. I found myself a bit flat footed when I was seeing PMD’s and Yellow Sally’s everywhere except in my fly boxes.

Overall, the trip was great. The views are stunning. This was a nice reprieve from a very hot and dry Phoenix summer.
