Montana Trip August 2026
Every year, in late summer, my friend Damien and I embark on a long road trip somewhere to fish. Over the years we have hit the Eastern Sierras for Golden Trout, kicked around Utah lakes in float tubes, and fished the cutthroat streams of western Wyoming. This wasn’t our first time making it out to Montana. In fact, we actually ended up camping in the exact same spot that we did a few years ago. I know that the brown trout fisheries get all the love in the state but I am a sucker for those skinny clear cutthroat rivers in the north. Wildfires have been raging all over the west and the smoke seemed to follow us just about everywhere. I photographed this trip with a different approach to try and compensate for the heavy smoke. I love how these images turned out, enjoy.
