Southern Utah Solo Trip March 2026
Spring has come to the west a few months early and the conditions seem to be setting us up for a pretty rough summer. With the dry and warm conditions, I drove out to fish some water that isn’t usually accessible until June. The fishing was damn good in both the streams and the lakes. Most of the time, when I visit this area, I tend to hop around and fish a bunch of different stuff but on this trip I decided to focus all of my efforts on one stream and one lake. I fished streamers on the lake in the morning and once I started seeing bigger bugs, I moved over to the creek to fish single dry flies. The creek is loaded with Colorado Cutthroat and Tiger Trout and each year seems to offer something different. In recent years the size just hasn’t really been there in the Tiger trout but for some reason, this year, those fish are much much bigger. I have been fishing this region pretty regularly for about a decade now and I am certainly hoping it can survive this summer.
